Future plans

Developing Leiden Bio Science Park
 

The park’s development is actively supported by the city of Leiden, the community of Oegstgeest and Leiden University who invest in the coming years in its further growth, urban development and infrastructure.

Over € 130 M will be invested in Leiden Bio Science Park, allowing for further development, better quality and connectivity. The ambitious expansion of the park will open up more opportunities for companies working in the life sciences and R&D institutes to establish themselves in an attractive location.

A further 36 hectare area (90 acres) will be available for new business, apartments and urban facilities. The aim is to create a high quality green urban area, with easy access and ample parking space, where people can work, live and play in one place.

There will be room for: 

  • over 70.000 m2 life science laboratories, production or distribution
  • over 150.000 m2 life science laboratories with offices
  • over 85.000 m2 life science offices
  • over 175.000 m2 new university complexes
  • over 200.000 m2 student housing, short stay facilities and apartments
     



The area is divided into 10 sections:
 

  1. LUMC area: education, medicine, car park and residential accommodation
  2. Boerhaave area: education and living
  3. Sylvius area: life science laboratories, production and/or distribution, and offices 
  4. Gorleaus area: university buildings and sports park 
  5. Head of the Leiden Bio Science Park area: life science laboratories and offices
  6. Entrance Section: apartments, shops and facilities, life science laboratories and offices
  7. Bio Science Park area: existing life science laboratories, production and/or distribution
  8. Park area: green lung from Naturalis to Bos van Bosman
  9. Oegstgeest area: life science laboratories with offices, museum and apartments
  10. Snellius area: life science laboratories, production and/or distribution
