Mobility at the Leiden Bio Science Park

The companies and institutions at the Leiden Bio Science Park are well accessible in terms of transportation. The Leiden Bio Science Park is ideally located between the A44 highway and the train station Leiden Centraal. On the park itself there is a wide range of  transport means available.

Companies can take all kinds of general measures that enhance mobility of their employees  and guests.  A few of them are mentioned below, followed by specific options that are made available at the Leiden Bio Science Park.

General measures

Some general measures that can be implemented by an organisation to increase mobility and reduce travelling and parking costs of employees are:

Bike Benefit (Fiets privé)
Tax benefit that allows an employee to deduct up to €750 for a bike from his total income. The employer also benefits because no taxes have to be paid on  that portion of his employees income.  More information on www.nationalefietsplan.nl or at the tax collectors.

OV bike (OV Fiets)
With an OV bike pass or the NS business card, rental bikes are available at both sides of Leiden Central station. Users just show there card and take a bike. A subscription is required, through www.ovfiets.nl. Costs are only € 2,75 per bike per day, payable once a month.

Car pooling
Sharing a car with colleagues.

Flexible mobility budgets
Employees are given a budget instead of the choice between a lease car or train card. Employees are stimulated to choose a more environmentally friendly lease car and use the rest of the budget for other means of transport. www.mobilitymixx.nl

Digital information boards
at the entrance of the organisation that indicate departure times of public transport possibilities (bus, train). www.ov9292.nl/zakelijk.

Public transport
To stimulate the use of public transport, companies can offer their employees 100% compensation of costs or give them a General OV-Card which they can also use for private purposes.
Two public transport bus companies Connexxion and Veolia service bus routes through the park. Depending on the bus stop, busses  drive from and to the train station. A map of available bus stops and their frequencies can be found at the backside.

Measures specifically available for organisations at the LBSP

Car sharing
The association of Leiden Bio Science Park companies, OV BSP, has set up a pilot project for business car sharing in collaboration with car rental company Autorent Huurmij. The concept ensures availability of shared cars on different locations at the park. Car sharing works very easy through internet reservation; a pass gives access to a network of cars. The system reduces costs, is sustainable, flexible and suitable for business appointments and commuting. Companies can participate in this system by contacting Autorent Huurmij. www.huurmij.nl

Shuttle buses
In addition to the busses that are already offered by Connexxion and Veolia, a custom made system of shuttle busses between the Leiden Central train station and the companies at the park will be driving during peak hours in the morning and the afternoon. Right now, a shuttle bus has been arranged as well as chauffeurs to drive the bus. When all necessary permits for the bus stops are acquired, the bus can start transporting employees at the park. We will then provide you with information on how companies can participate, on bus stops and timetables.
