Name and numbers:
I-An Chen

Job description:
My job title is international accounting manager, and it makes my job highly related to what I specialize. However our business here is still under development, what I did mostly so far was to supervise cash expenditures and legal compliance.

Company/Institution:
TLC Biopharmaceuticals B. V.

What do you do?
I am the only employee here in Leiden for TLC, and basically, everything related to our Dutch business entity is under my duty. Another big part of my work is to sustain the network with other companies, since TLC still seeks for some partners for our future projects. But to be specifically, I account for finance issues.

In what way does the park benefit from your work?
TLC is one of the leading biotech companies in Taiwan. We are familiar with other peer companies in Taiwan, and it makes us to bring diversity to Leiden BioScience Park. Other companies in Leiden could build and look for their business relationship with and from us.

Why did you choose to work in Leiden?
In my case was that I chose TLC, and that TLC chose Leiden. Leiden has a prestigious university and is situated in an area close to nature environment. The city is vibrant with life.
From the company’s perspective, Leiden BioScience park is not far from major harbor or airport; besides, inside park, companies have economic benefits of clusters. LUMC is right in the center, and it is easy for companies to have technology or research supports.

What kind of facilities/companies do we lack on the park?
Well, it’s a harder question though! I wish we could have a park bus...but it’s not really necessary. At this moment, I’ve not yet realized any insufficiency of facilities.

What did you study?
I majored in Accounting for my bachelor degree; after that, I thought I needed some more knowledge on finance, so I went to Amsterdam Business School for a master in international finance.

What was your first job?
This is my first full-time job.

What did you want to become as a child?
Pianist, when I was aged 4, I started to go to private music school and spent an hour on instruments. At 6, most of my time went to the piano. I was not very talented actually, but the environment and many books I read at that time made me to think I’d be a pianist in the future!

What do you do in your spare time?
Reading, visiting museums, going to the movies, cooking, and taking a walk.
