Invitation for PhD research
TU Delft, in collaboration with RIVM and a number of water companies offer the opportunity for a PhD research on drinking water security. The research concerns the development and application of models for rapid detection of and response to emergencies in the water supply, for both infrastructure and pollution incidents.
The research will deal with optimal locations of sensors, the spread of contaminants in the network, on-line detection of quality changes, detecting pollution sources and forecast of health effects. In addition, a link will be developed with (geographic) information of water quality monitoring, customer management systems and information systems. With the developed tools water companies will be better prepared for disturbances in the water distribution.
The research is conducted in cooperation with RIVM, Brabant Water Dunea, Vitens, PWN and consultancy companies DHV and UReason. The work will be carried out in a multidisciplinary project team whereby regular quality changes in the distribution network will be analyzed and training simulators for operators will be developed. The models to be developed will be tested at one or more water companies.
We expect from the candidates an affinity with water distribution modeling and GIS.
