ProFibrix to present phase II data at International Fibrinogen Workshop
ProFibrix B.V., a leader in the development of innovative products based on the blood clotting protein fibrinogen presents the first Phase II data for its lead product Fibrocaps™.
Fibrocaps is a novel, innovative haemostat product, containing pre-mixed fibrinogen and thrombin powder that is used to rapidly control and stop bleeding. The results of the Phase II study, performed in liver surgery, was presented at the International Fibrinogen Research Society (IFRS) Workshop in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The Netherlands have traditionally played a prominent role in haemostasis research, and Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Free University Medical Center in Amsterdam and University Medical Center in Groningen are important research centers in the fibrinogen and fibrin field. With ProFibrix, located in the Leiden BioScience park, the Netherlands now also play a leading role in the development and commercialization of new innovative products based on fibrinogen with applications in haemostasis and regenerative medicine.
Moniek de Maat, PhD, chair of the IFRS workshop and biochemist at the department of haematology at Erasmus Medical Center, said: “We are proud to host the XXIst IFRS workshop, a meeting where leading international fibrinogen researchers present recent basic, clinical, population and translational science in this important field. It is significant that in addition to its first rate academic credentials with ProFibrix the Netherlands now also have a commercial biotech company focused on this part of haemostasis.”
Jaap Koopman, chief executive officer of ProFibrix said: “We are very pleased with the results from our Phase II trial for Fibrocaps and the opportunity to present them today at this IFRS workshop. Based on these promising results we will continue the further clinical development of Fibrocaps in other surgeries. Furthermore, in a different track of the meeting Jos Grimbergen, Director Research at ProFibrix, will report on the substantial progress we made with an industrial-scale production process for recombinant fibrinogen using Crucell’s PER.C6 cell line.”
ProFibrix and the IFRS are the main sponsors of the XXIst IFRS workshop.
