Biotech company Pharming Group NV announced that it has entered into an agreement with Hyupjin Corporation, a Seoul based Korean specialty pharma company, to commercialise RUCONEST® (recombinant human C1 inhibitor) for the treatment of acute attacks of Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) in the Republic of Korea.

HAL Allergy B.V. announced that it has successfully completed patient enrollment in its Phase II dose range finding study. This multi-centre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 250 patients with persistent allergic rhinitis / rhinoconjunctivitis will characterize the dose-response relationship of PURETHAL® Mites in order to support the optimal dose in terms of clinical efficacy and safety.

Galapagos NV announced that it has identified a pre-clinical compound in its alliance with Janssen Pharmaceutica NV. This achievement triggered a milestone payment of €6.6 million to Galapagos. 

GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE and BAC BV, the leading provider of antibody-based affinity purification technology, announced that, following a successful collaboration between the two companies, GE Healthcare Life Sciences has added a new and innovative affinity resin to its portfolio of technologies for the purification of antibody-based fragments.

Dutch Space and German prime OHB-System signed a contract of over 13 million euro for the delivery of a second series of Galileo solar arrays. Following the current successful development and delivery of the wings for the first fourteen satellites for the European navigation system, the Dutch space company now also has a go for the solar arrays for the next eight Galileo satellites.

PROXY Laboratories B.V. announced the acquisition of MicroSafe Services (Leiden, the Netherlands), from Merck Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

OctoPlus N.V. announced that it has signed a feasibility agreement with a top-5 generics company to develop a generic formulation of an existing injectable specialty pharmaceutical product.

FlexGen launched the gene searcher tool on their website. The free tool allows researchers and clinicians to search for pre-defined FleXelect kits that target their genes of interest for next generation sequencing. FleXelect in-solution target enrichment kits feature high coverage and superior evenness of enrichment due to double stranded DNA capture technology.

Galapagos NV and Servier announced the achievement of milestones under their alliance agreement in osteoarthritis. These milestones trigger payments to Galapagos totalling €3.5 million, which will contribute to the Company's 2011 financial results.

Commercialization of the quality research taking place in Leiden is a key priority of both Leiden University and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). Not only is the research activity itself strengthened, but also the output can be effectively utilized by society for economic and clinical benefit. The role of LURIS is to facilitate this commercialization process for the University and the LUMC.

EuropaBio has announced the launch of its 3rd annual Most Innovative European Biotech SME Award and invites applications for the 2012 competition. The award aims to reward SMEs which are operating in all applications of biotechnology, from agriculture to industrial and healthcare, and which are making a significant contribution to providing innovative solutions to the grand challenges of our time as outlined in EU Commission President Barroso’s Europe 2020 Strategy.
