International orientation

Leiden has a good reputation abroad. Many foreign researchers and students come to work and study here, and the university is in contact with many foreign academic establishments. Top quality research increasingly means joining forces with other departments, faculties and universities.

  • Leiden University has a collaboration agreement with other well-respected research-intensive universities within LERU, the League of European Research Universities.
  • Leiden Bio Science Park and Leiden University are partner in the panEuropean Network in Bioscience research. The Biocompetence network has been set up to improve the access to research competences within European bioscience in its partner regions by developing a joint Competence Management System.
  • The university has built strong local and regional alliances in life sciences with such organizations as TNO Quality of Life and the Technical University of Delft.
  • Collaboration between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine has resulted in a joint BioScience Initiative, which promotes interaction and synergy between life science and other scientific topics such as chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science.
